The “Boring” Design Work I’ll Never Give Up
“That sounds really boring.”
That was the response I got when someone asked what I do and I said, “graphic design for software companies.”
I had to laugh. If you work in B2B SaaS, you’ve probably heard something similar.
But here’s the thing: I’ve been designing since before the first iPhone dropped, and I’m choosing to plant my flag right here in the weird, abstract world of SaaS.
This is the land of creative briefs like:
“Show how structured errors are filtered through our industry-leading API.”
“Make our product look like a hub that transforms chaotic data into strategic insights. And make it pop.”
It’s messy, it’s technical, and it’s a challenge every single day.
But that’s exactly what keeps me coming back.
Maybe it’s the same part of me that thinks rucking uphill with a 20lb pack sounds like a good time. I like the kind of work that pushes me, the behind-the-scenes stuff that builds real strength.
Designing for SaaS is the same. It’s solving complex, invisible problems. It’s building a design system that flexes from technical sales decks to flashy trade show booths and still holds together.
It may sound boring, but it’s the best kind of challenge.
And I’m all in.
